You Beauty!

I won't lie to you. I'm a real beauty product whore. That's right, I admit I'm a bit of a slut when it comes to products that help me make the best of what I have. I'm up for trying anything which offers a promise of quick fixing flaws based on 'science' ;) having said that I still swear by my beauty staples. The ones I'm faithful to through the good times and bad. I just did a restock so thought I'd share.

No te voy a mentir, estoy obsesionada con los productos de belleza. Lo admito, soy un poco "ninfómana" con este tipo de productos que me ayudan a sacar lo mejor que tengo.

Estoy dispuesta a intentar "todo" con cualquier producto que me prometa un arreglo de mis imperfecciones. Dicho esto, también confieso que tengo mi lista de básicos de belleza. Son aquellos a los que les he sido fiel siempre. Acabo de renovarlos y he pensado que sería una buena idea compartirlo con vosotros.

I've got skin issues. Seriously. I'm paranoid about keeping it hydrated, especially since Madrid is dry and saps the life out of my skin. I'm not talking desert dry but I'm convinced my skin is disintegrating rapidly due to my move here, so I'm constantly moisturising. Bio oil for me is legendary. It works a treat on fading scars and really calms skin as an after sun care product. I use it on my body but it can be used on your face too. Find it here.

Tengo problemas en la piel. En serio, soy una paranoica por tener la piel hidratada... especialmente desde que me vine a Madrid. Madrid tiene un clima seco, y la sequedad acorta la vida de mi piel. Tampoco es que sea el desierto pero estoy convencida de que mi piel sufre, por eso la estoy hidratando constantemente. Bio oil para mi es un producto único. Funciona de las mil maravillas en las cicatrices y calma la piel como un after-sun. Yo lo utilizo para mi cuerpo aunque puedes utilizarlo simplemente en la cara. Aquí puedes encontrarlo.

I could rave on about this little tube of goodness for an age! It was originally designed as a balm for the nipples for new mothers to use to soothe their nipples after breast-feeding. So basically what it does is say bye bye chapped lips, hello sexy lucious lips. Eat your heart out Vaseline! Stock up on this here. Trust me it will have a place in your clutch forever after you've used it once.

Podría estar hablando sobre este tubito durante años!! fue diseñado originalmente como un bálsamo para los pezones de las madres después de amamantar. Oilatum natural repair is an affordable moisturiser suitable for everyone! I can't go on about this enough. My sister told me about it a few years back (cheers ma dear) and since then I've been hooked. It's worked some serious magic on my face. I don't use it everyday cos It's super rich, so use it as a night cream to give my face extra TLC, especially through the winter months. Grab it here.

This is a bit of a beauty cult classic and is my faithful friend that gets rid of city grime and waterproof mascara like nobody's business! Might make you nervous if you have oily skin but fear not. Ricardo Cavolo

Watch out for this guy. Just incase you've been living under a rock for the last couple of years I'd like to introduce the very talented Ricardo Cavolo. I had the pleasure of interviewing the lovely chap recently. I was drawn to his work by chance, through Yorokobu and album artwork for Computadora.

Estar atentos con este chico que he tenido el placer de entrevistar recientemente. Si eres uno de los que ha pasado los últimos años debajo de una roca quiero presentarte al muy talentoso Ricardo Cavolo. Caí prendada de su trabajo por casualidad, a través de la revista Yorokobu y las ilustraciones hechas para el álbum de música del grupo Computadora. 

Since liking what I saw I haven't been able to enter a bookshop without seeing his distinct style of illustrations everywhere.  And then theres the huge Mural's in Urban outfitters stores.

Desde entonces no ha habido día que no viese sus ilustraciones por todas partes o esos enormes murales que ha hecho para Urban outfitters.  

This guy is passionate as. He's not afraid of working hard and is a firm believer in old fashioned formula of hard work and a bit of patience.  He's down to earth and is a self confessed weirdo... Most interesting people are. And he's really not into ice cream at all.

Es un chico muy apasionado. Es de los que creen firmemente en la fórmula de trabajar duro y tener paciencia. Es una persona humilde y un confeso bicho raro, no le gustan los helados!... bueno y qué, la mayor parte de gente interesante es así.

When asked what influences his creativity, I realised there's nothing pretentious about him - he told the honest truth, perhaps something that can get lost along the way of success.  'Everything of course' was his response.'Films, books, music, art and chats with my mates. He's difinately more than meets the eye.  I was surprised to find that his favourite piece of his own work was stuff that he'd done as a kid he says he spent more time drawing than playing during his childhood.

Cuando le pregunté por sus influencias, me dí cuenta de que no hay nada pretencioso en él, me dijo la verdad... algo que puede no ser tan bueno en el camino del éxito. Su respuesta fué "Todo me influye, por supuesto.... las películas, la música, el arte y las charlas con mis colegas, todo forma parte del proceso". Es difinitivamente mas de lo que parece. Me sorprendí al descubrir que su pieza favorita esta entre los trabajos de su niñez, dice que pasaba más tiempo dibujando que jugando.

This down to earth fella remembers working his ass off on a poster for Cirque Du Soleil which launched his career and says he never imagined getting to where he is now - working on his own graphic novel which he can't wait to get published next spring. His advice to other kids trying to make it doing what they love, is to simply work your bum off and never limit yourself. Talented, hard working, ambitious and a real gent. This guys got it going on.

Ricardo recuerda como tuvo que trabajar muy duro en un cartel que realizo para Cirque Du Soleil, pieza que propulsó su carrera y dice que nunca imaginó llegar a donde está ahora - impaciente por publicar la próxima primavera su primera novela gráfica. Su consejo a otros jóvenes es que sigan haciendo lo que mas les gusta, trabajando dura y sin ponerse barreras. Talentoso, trabajador, ambicioso... es todo un caballero.

Sexiest Hotel Ever

It's almost Valentines day... Love it or loathe it, I've got just the thing!

Es casi el día de San Valentín... puede que lo ames o puede que lo odies, aquí tengo la idea perfecta.

Five years ago I was introduced to the Puerta America in Madrid.
Since then I've used any excuse to stay there, including my feet hurt after a night out hehe. What? If it works why not;). Anyhoo It's made a lasting impression and has remained in my top ten hotels list.  I've recommended it to absolutely everyone I know.  So I'm taking my appreciation a step further than my Facebook status. This is my PDA for Hotel Puerta America!

Hace cinco años conocí este hotel y desde entonces he utilizado cualquier excusa para dormir ahí, un ejemplo,que te duelan mucho los pies después de una noche de fiesta jeje (no pierdes nada por intentarlo). De cualquier modo me ha dejado impresionada y ya lo he incluido en mi top ten de los mejores hoteles. Se lo he recomendado a absolutamente todas las personas que conozco. Por eso me estoy tomando tantas molestias... esto es mi PDA

Staying at this 5* hotel is unforgettable regardless of who you go with... Although I'm sure Ryan Gosling would certainly make an impression in any old skanky motel, maybe even in a room where a murder has taken place.  Ok my fantasy is getting out of control now.

La estancia en este hotel de 5* es inolvidable, independientemente de con quien vayas... Bueno, a no ser que vayas con Ryan Gosling porque en ese caso todo cambia, un viejo motel de carretera puede ser el mismísimo paraíso... incluso siendo esa habitación el escenario de un crimen....mmm creo que tengo que dejar de fantasear.

Having said that Puerta America could totally give his sex appeal and style some serious competition starting with check in where you pick the floor you want to stay on. I guarantee you'll be spoilt for choice!

Dicho esto Puerta America también puede ofrecerte todo un mundo de estilo y sensualidad, empezando por la elección de la habitación donde pasarás la noche. Te garantizo que sufrirás cuando tengas que elegir una de ellas.

The hotel oozes luxury and originality through concepts which give you a real Alice in Wonderland experience. Every floor is a dreamland designed by a world class architect. I've had the pleasure of staying on a few floors and it's a tough call to pick my favourite so far, but I reckon Zaha Hadid's floor wins, only just though.

El hotel transpira lujo y originalidad a través de conceptos que que te harán sentir como Alicia en el país de las maravillas. Cada planta esta diseñada por un arquitecto de renombre. Yo he tenido el placer de poder estar en un par de ellos y os aseguro que es difícil decir cual es mi preferida, tal vez podría ser la planta de Zaha Hadid... no estoy nada segura.

Rooms obviously come with all the usual 5 star mod cons so theres no worrying about wifi or adapter plugs for your gadgets. But for me, what makes this place extra spesh is the attention to detail and quirky design features. Im talking some serious design flair.  After all, the créme de la créme of the design world such as Richard Gluckman, Marc Jewson, Norman Foster and Ron Arad have each designed a floor.

Las habitaciones obviamente vienen con todas las comodidades habituales de los hoteles de 5 estrellas. Pero para mi, lo que realmente lo hace grande es la atención que muestran por los detalles y las características peculiares de su diseño. Después de todo, la créme de la créme del mundo del diseño, como Richard Gluckman, Jewson Marc, Norman Foster y Ron Arad han diseñado cada una de estas plantas.

The amazing bath tubs alone make you wanna stay forever/do a complete bathroom makeover at home.  Some of them are big enough for you to dive into! Then there's option to soak in privacy or to open up the bathroom and watch the tv in the guest room, which lets face it is a real essential for making you feel like a star!

Solo por los baños ya te quedarías de por vida o querrías, al menos, dar un cambio radical al baño de tu casa. Algunos de ellos son tan grandes que puedes incluso bucear. Luego tienes la opción de poder disfrutarlo en la intimidad o abrirlo para poder estar conectado con la habitación de invitados y poder ver la televisión... seamos realistas es en esencia lo que necesitas para sentirte como una estrella.

The chic skynight roof top bar is a great hangout, it is pricey but offers amazing panoramic views of the city and often has live Jazz nights, so makes for a really impressive date...especially cos the black pool is on the same floor, what could be sexier?

Arriba del todo esta el Skynight un sitio para reunirse, tal vez un poco caro, sin embargo ofrece unas vistas panorámicas de la ciudad increíbles y de vez en cuando ofrecen conciertos de jazz en directo, lo que lo convierte en un sitio perfecto para tus citas. La piscina también se encuentra en esa misma última planta, que podría ser mas sexy?

Hipanema has just landed in Madrid thanks to Cool the Sack. It's been love since I discovered the brand last summer and it's definitely one for the wish list or rather 'to buy list ASAP'.

Valentino: Master Of Couture

I had wanted to visit the Valentino Master of Couture exhibit since it opened, so whilst I was in London earlier this month I managed to sort out a visit to Somerset House and have a quick butchers.

Desde su estreno he estado intentando pasarme por la exhibición de Valentino Master of Couture. Gracias a Dios, a principios de este mes estaba en Londres y me las arreglé para hacer una pequeña visita al Somerset House.

I squeezed in the visit just a few hours before my flight back to Madrid. I knew I was totally cutting it fine but it was beyond Loreal levels of worth it. Even though I had a major panic attack on my way to the airport.

Apuré la visita hasta el último momento, horas antes de mi vuelo de regreso a Madrid. Era consciente de que el tiempo iba en mi contra, que podría llegar tarde a mi cita en el aeropuerto y que seguramente sufriría un ataque de pánico desenfrenado, sin embargo sabía que el riesgo valía la pena.

The exhibition does an amazing job of revealing details that leave you wowing at the obscene talent that is Valentino.  You get to eye more than 130 haute couture dresses and never seen before stuff from his private life, including letters and photos giving you a peak into his glamourous world.

La exposición es increíble, mostrando detalles reveladores que te dejarán cautivado por el talento innato que posee Valentino. Tienes la oportunidad de echar un vistazo a más de 130 vestidos de alta costura y cosas de su vida privada nunca antes vista, incluyendo cartas y fotografías que añaden más profundidad a su mundo de glamour.

 
A runway is used to beautifully present the dresses on mannequins which are placed in the audience, allowing you to walk the runway and stop and stare at each timeless piece.

Utilizan una larga pista para presentar los trajes, colocados de manera muy original, haciéndonos creer que somos nosotros los modelos.

He's undoubtedly one of the top couture designers in the world and has dressed famous peeps all over the globe from Jackie Kennedy to Gwyneth Paltrow.  He superseaded legendary status in my mind when I watched the series of short videos about the craftsmanship that goes into creating each piece of Valentino couture.  It was a real eye opener to see how much work goes into each individual couture piece. Just the veil for the wedding dress of Princess Marie Chantal of Greece took 10 women an entire month to make!

Es sin duda, uno de los diseñadores de alta costura más importante. Ha vestido a miles de famosas, desde Jackie Kennedy a Gwyneth Paltrow. Para mi ha superado el nivel de personaje de leyenda después de ver la serie de videos sobre cómo confeccionaba todas sus prendas. Es revelador ver cuanto trabajo se precisa. Solo para el velo de la boda de la Princesa Marie Chantal de Grecia se necesitó un mes entero y 10 mujeres para realizarlo.

Whilst at the exhibition I saw visitors scribbling down notes and ooing and ahing taking in every detail. But I'm pretty sure that after a while most of the visitors like myself were off fantasizing about a lock in scenario, so we could play dress up and maybe sneak a few favourites out without getting noticed.

Mientras tanto en la exhibición la gente anotaba en sus cuadernillos y hacían "ruiditos" de sorpresa cuando descubrían un nuevo detalle de algún vestido. Yo estoy segura, que después de un rato, la mayoría de las personas que estaban dentro, empezaban a fantasear con quedarse ahí encerradas para poder probarse todo.

Brow Wow!

Sundara has been a real godsend.  Finally the stress over my brows has been relieved!  Since I've been in Madrid it's been a real challenge to find a brow artist I can trust.  Now I can put my tweezers away for good!

Sundara ha sido un regalo de Dios. Finalmente el estrés que tengo con mis cejas ha terminado. Ha sido un auténtico desafío encontrar a la personas adecuadas desde que estoy en Madrid. Por fin podré jubilar a mis pinzas.

Just so we are all on the same page... Brows shape your face, and I am obsessed with them.  I'm all for the more natural look brow myself but still, work must be done.  I swear by threading its that or die for me.  I may sound like a mad woman but honestly... I once found a brow artist I loved at Bliss Spa and when she left central London I followed her all the way to zone 5. Not to her house of course but to her own salon hehe.

Solo para que nos entendamos... las cejas dan forma a tu cara, y yo estoy obsesionada con ellas. Soy de las que piensan que es mejor unas cejas de look natural pero aun así hay que hacerlo. Lo juro la depilación con hilo es lo mejor. Puedo sonar como una loca pero... Una vez conocí en el Bliss Spa a una "artista" que me enamoró, sin embargo un día se mudo del centro de Londres a la zona 5 y... bueno yo seguí visitándola, no en su casa sino en su centro de belleza hehe.

So imagine my excitement over this place...

They are very professional and talk you through the whole process. I'm quite possessive over my brows so it really helped me feel reassured that I wouldn't have to leave with wonky brows, or need a brow pencil for life.

Así que imaginaros mi entusiasmo por este lugar...

Son muy profesionales, te van explicando en todo momento lo que van haciendo. Soy muy exigente con mis cejas por eso me gusta tanto este sitio porque sé que no tendré que salir con las cejas torcidas o con un lápiz de cejas de por vida.

There's also a walk in brow bar in CC La Vaguada and in  Plenilunio so you can have catwalk brows in no time. Sophisticated and groomed in minutes with no tweezers in sight.

También tienes la posibilidad de hacerlo en Sundara "Bar de Cejas", que se encuentra en los centros comerciales de la Vaguada y Plenilunium, y estar servida en unos segundos con unas cejas preparadas para una pasarela.

Threading is one of the oldest methods of hair removal, which is precise, quick and relatively painless. It defines and shapes your brows perfectly.  I'm completely sold!

Depilar con hilo es uno de los métodos mas antiguos para eliminar  vello, preciso, rápido y relativamente indoloro. Define y da forma a tus cejas perfectamente. A mi me han enamorado.

Otro punto a favor es que todos los tratamientos que ofrecen utilizan productos naturales. Desde el esmalte de uñas hasta las cremas faciales y todo con la más alta calidad. Bread and Butter Pudding

This is easy peasy to make, and tastes like the best kiss you've ever had.  No seriously it does. The hardest part is the custard, but no need to freak out it's just a bit of whisking.

Esta receta es super sencilla y te aseguro que te sabrá a besos. En serio esta buenísimo. La parte más complicada es el flan, pero no hay necesidad de hacer drama de todo esto, es solo cuestión de batir.

Start off by soaking the sultanas in 50ml boiling water together with 50g of caster sugar for around half an hour. 

Comenzamos remojando las pasas en 50ml de agua hirviendo junto con 50g de azúcar en polvo durante 30 min.

Now get cracking with the eggs, caster sugar and salt and go whisking mad.

Después nos ponemos con los huevos, el azúcar en polvo y la sal para batirlo todo como locos.

Boil the milk, cream and vanilla essence. When this cools pour it into the egg mixture and you've guessed it... keep on whisking.

Hervimos la leche junto a la crema y la esencia de vainilla. Cuando se enfríe lo vertimos todo en la mezcla de los huevos y... lo has adivinado seguimos batiendo.

Ta da, there you have the custard done!

Ta chan!! ya tienes la crema listo!

Before sorting out the rest of the pudding don't forget to pre-heat your oven to 170ºC. Now get slicing up your Panettone. My version is with a choc chip variety but plain bread can also be used. Go with whatever you fancy, try it with brioche it's also pretty yum.

Antes de terminar de hacer el resto el pudín, tenemos precalentar el horno a 170º C. Cortamos en trozos el Panettone, para mi versión he utilizado uno con chocolate pero en realidad va con cualquier cosa, prueba con brioche que también esta delicioso.

Now butter your dish and put the sultanas in with a bit of the custard.

Ahora untamos mantequilla en el recipiente y ponemos las pasas con un poco de crema.

Soak the slices in the custard and layer them in the dish until it's full. Top off with the rest of the custard and give it 15 mins or so to soak in. What you want to do now is bung it in the oven for 30 mins.

Remojamos las rebanadas del panettone y las vamos poniendo en capas hasta que este lleno y hacemos lo mismo con el resto de la crema, dejandolo 15 minutos para que empape bien después lo metemos en el horno durante 30 minutos.

I suggest watching an episode of New Girl as a distraction strategy. Cos after two mins in the oven it starts to smell pretty heavenly, so you really must resist the urge to stick your head in the oven to get up close and personal.

Durante la espera os recomiendo que os pongáis un capítulo de New Girl para hacerlo más ameno. Os aconsejo esto porque al cabo de dos minutos vuestra cocina se inundará de un olor celestial y tendréis que resistiros para no meter la cabeza dentro del horno.

Once times up, dust the pudding with icing sugar and give it a glaze under the grill. Serve ASAP. This kind of goodness shouldn't be waited for any longer, even if this is part of a late night cook session. Prepare for some serious yummy in your tummy. WARNING: Highly Addictive.

Después de los 30 min correspondientes, espolvoreamos el azúcar glaseado por encima y volveremos a meterlo en el horno para darle el toque final. Sirvelo lo antes posible. Este tipo de cosas no puede demorarse mucho, no lo dejes para mañana. Prepara a tu estomago para esta delicia. Advertencia: altamente adictivo.
